'Taking Care of your society....Begins Here...But we need your help'

Central to the effective operation of Neighbourhood Watch is the role of the appointed Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinator. This individual is nominated to act in this capacity and supported by those householders wishing to be involved in a particular scheme. The relationship between the Co-ordinator and the Police will be of critical importance to the long term success of the scheme to bridge the gap between communities and law enforcement.

Proper communication is essential to the long term success of any Neighbourhood Watch Scheme between the Police and Police Community Support Officers and other agencies which is crucial to maintaining links and identifying opportunities for all parties to co-operate.

The Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator will communicate with local Police Community Support Officer on an ongoing basis, and exchange information on crime related issues affecting the quality of life in that area. It is therefore important that each person acting in this capacity can do so with the support, trust and confidence of the householders in their local community, police and other agencies.

The primary role of each Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator is to act as a point of first contact for all the householder members of the scheme, to receive and distribute information, and to recruit new members. Through the Co-ordinator, other projects such as property marking or a local community safety newsletter could be established and co-ordinated.
